Omaha Weather Alert: Rain, Road Work & July 4th Forecast!

Omaha residents, get ready for a mixed bag of weather and traffic updates! As we approach the 4th of July, here's what you need to know.

Rainy Start, Hot Finish?

This week kicks off with a chance of showers, particularly early Monday morning. While the Storm Prediction Center has flagged a slight risk area extending to the Omaha metro, the most potent storms are expected to remain south. Expect a 20% chance of rain between 5 AM and 9 AM, followed by afternoon sunshine boosting temperatures.

Wednesday brings another chance of showers, potentially impacting your morning commute. While some thunderstorms might rumble before noon, temperatures will climb back into the 90s. Expect hotter and more humid conditions tomorrow, potentially making it the hottest day of the week. The 4th of July itself will be hot and humid, with increasing chances of evening and overnight storms – potentially affecting your festive plans around 7 PM to 10 PM.

Traffic Troubles & Streetcar News

Drivers in the Midtown and Blackstone areas should be aware of ongoing road construction related to utility relocation for the future streetcar. While the streetcar isn't scheduled to be in service until 2028, the current road work shouldn't last that long. The Harney Street Bridge rebuild is reportedly ahead of schedule, and the Farnam Street Bridge will undergo a similar demolition and rebuilding process after the Harney project is complete.

A crash on I-80 eastbound at the exit to I-680 northbound is causing delays. Be prepared for congestion in the area.
