Bruins Bolster Coaching Staff with Steve Spott Appointment

The Boston Bruins have officially announced the addition of Steve Spott to their coaching staff as an assistant coach. The announcement, made on June 20th, marks a significant move for the team as they look to improve their performance in the upcoming season. Spott brings a wealth of experience to the Bruins, having spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach for the Dallas Stars.

A Coaching Veteran Joins the Bruins

Head Coach Marco Sturm expressed his enthusiasm for Spott's arrival, stating, “I’m thrilled to add Steve Spott to our coaching staff, and also welcome him, his wife Lisa and their children, Tyler and Emma, to Boston. Steve is a passionate teacher, a strong communicator, and brings great structure and detail to everything he does. His experience, especially on special teams, will be a major asset for our group and for the Bruins moving forward.”

Spott's Impressive Track Record

Spott's resume speaks for itself. During his tenure with the Dallas Stars, he helped guide the team to three consecutive Western Conference Final appearances, achieving a regular-season record of 149-68-29, the best in the NHL during that period. He also oversaw the Stars' power play, which boasted a 23.7% success rate over the past three seasons, ranking seventh in the league.

Before his time in Dallas, Spott served as an assistant coach with the Vegas Golden Knights from 2020-2022 and the San Jose Sharks from 2015-2019. He also spent two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, including a stint as the head coach of the Toronto Marlies (AHL) in 2013-2014.

Spott's Excitement to Join the Bruins

“I’m incredibly excited and honored to join the Boston Bruins organization,” said Spott. “Being part of an Original Six franchise with such a proud history and tradition means a great deal to me and my family. The opportunity to work alongside Marco and the rest of this coaching staff, in front of one of the most passionate fanbases in hockey, is something I’m truly grateful for, and I can’t wait to get started.”

The Bruins are hopeful that Spott's expertise will contribute to a successful season after missing the playoffs this past year.
