Bartow, Florida, is buzzing with excitement as native son Tony Bradley Jr. competes in the NBA Finals with the Indiana Pacers. The Bartow High School graduate is making his hometown proud during his seventh year in the league. FOX 13's Mark Skol Jr. reports on the wave of support Bradley is receiving.
A Town United in Support
“In Bartow it is truly a village,” said Tony Bradley, Sr., reflecting on the community’s unwavering support for his son. The entire town is rallying behind Bradley as he takes the court in the Finals for the first time.
From High School Star to NBA Finals
Bradley's journey to the NBA Finals began in Bartow, where he was a standout player. He earned the prestigious McDonald's All-American title in high school and further solidified his skills by winning a national championship at North Carolina. These achievements laid the foundation for his successful NBA career.
“It's really exciting for the town, the community,” said Bartow boys head basketball coach Terrence McGriff. “On social media everyone was like, 'That's Tony Bradley. I know him.'”
Family's Pride and Encouragement
The Bradley family is bursting with pride as they watch Tony compete on the biggest stage. Vanessa Bradley, Tony’s mother, recounted the excitement of watching Game Five. “Jasmine, Jasmine, Tony's in the game,” she exclaimed, sharing her enthusiasm with her daughter.
During Game Five, Bradley contributed four points and four rebounds in 12 minutes of play. His parents emphasized the importance of embracing his role and contributing his best. “We tell Tony all the time, his opportunity is going to come, but be in the role that you are in, just be the best cheerleader you can be, if that is your role,” Vanessa Bradley stated.
Hard Work Pays Off
Bradley’s dedication to basketball started at a young age. His father built a basketball court in their backyard, providing him with a space to hone his skills. “Every night, he would get home, eat, do his homework,” Tony Bradley, Sr. explained, highlighting his son’s commitment and discipline.
As Tony Bradley continues to compete in the NBA Finals, the town of Bartow, his family, and his former coaches are cheering him on, celebrating his success and the hard work that brought him to this momentous occasion.
