Listeria Outbreak: Chicken Alfredo Recall at Walmart & Kroger After Deaths

A nationwide recall has been issued for ready-to-eat chicken fettuccine Alfredo meals sold at Walmart and Kroger due to a Listeria outbreak. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is currently investigating the outbreak, which has resulted in 17 illnesses, including three deaths and one fetal loss across 13 states.

The FSIS investigation has identified that the outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes was present in affected individuals between August 2024 and May 2025. Routine testing at a FreshRealm establishment in March also isolated the same strain, prompting the recall. Authorities are working to determine the specific ingredient in the chicken fettuccine Alfredo that is the source of the contamination.

Affected Products and Brands

FreshRealm has confirmed that the recalled products were distributed nationwide under the following brands:

  • Marketside (Walmart): Sold as “Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken and Shaved Parmesan Cheese”
  • Home Chef (Kroger): Sold as “Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with pasta, grilled white meat chicken, and Parmesan cheese”

What to Do If You Have Recalled Products

The FSIS is urging consumers to check their refrigerators and freezers for the recalled chicken Alfredo meals. If you have purchased any of the affected products, do not consume them. You should either throw them away immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

If you suspect you have contracted a Listeria infection after consuming these products, seek immediate medical attention. Listeria symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. Pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe illness.
