The Bahamas is experiencing a tourism boom, with a 9% increase in visitors in the first quarter of 2025 compared to last year. Riding this wave of success, Makers Air is significantly expanding its service to the islands, strengthening its commitment to the region.
Daily Flights to Cat Island Commence November 1st
Starting November 1st, Makers Air will offer daily flights between Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) and New Bight, Cat Island (TBI). This new service provides unparalleled access to this beautiful and relatively untouched Bahamian island, known for its stunning beaches and laid-back atmosphere.
According to Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, this expansion signifies positive developments in the region's tourism sector. He stated, "Increased air service is always a signal that we’re doing something right. Makers Air’s expansion is more than just flights, it’s a connection between people, cultures, and economies..."
Increased Service to Long Island
In addition to the daily flights to Cat Island, Makers Air is also increasing its service to Long Island. Beginning November 2nd, flights between Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) and Long Island’s Stella Maris Airport (SML) will operate three days a week: Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. This provides more flexibility for travelers looking to explore Long Island's dramatic cliffs, pristine beaches, and world-class diving spots.
More Accessible Bahamas
Latia Duncombe, Director General of Tourism, emphasized the importance of this expansion, saying, "The expansion of existing services to Cat Island and Long Island is a meaningful step forward. It not only makes the destinations more accessible but also speaks to the growing appeal of what each island has to offer.”
With Makers Air's increased service, experiencing the unique charm and natural beauty of Cat Island and Long Island has never been easier. These developments underscore the growing popularity of the Bahamas as a top travel destination.
