CPS Energy Urges Conservation: Stay Cool, Save Energy This Summer

CPS Energy Launches Summer Conservation Campaign

As summer heats up, CPS Energy is reminding customers to conserve energy and save money. With air conditioners working overtime and appliances constantly in use, summer is a peak energy consumption period. To help customers manage their energy use effectively, CPS Energy is bringing back Cam the Chameleon, a color-coded conservation system designed to provide specific tips based on daily energy demand.

Cam changes color to reflect the conservation level: Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red. These levels are directly associated with anticipated energy demand, helping residents easily understand the need for conservation.

Understanding the Color-Coded System

  • Green Days: These are typical days calling for everyday conservation actions, such as setting your thermostat to 78 degrees, using ceiling fans, closing blinds, unplugging electronics, and line-drying clothes.
  • Yellow Days: When temperatures rise and strain the grid, Yellow Days encourage increased conservation during peak hours. Check CPS Energy's website for specific times when heightened conservation is needed.
  • Orange and Red Alerts: These alerts are issued only if the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) declares the grid is at risk. During these alerts, it's critical to limit power usage and stay updated via CPS Energy's website and social media.

Tips for Each Conservation Level

Beyond the basic Green Day measures, CPS Energy recommends the following for Yellow Days:

  • Adjust thermostats to minimize HVAC use.
  • Avoid using large appliances like ovens, washers, dryers, and dishwashers during peak hours.
  • Charge electric vehicles after 10 pm.

During Orange and Red Alerts, limiting power usage is paramount. Visit CPS Energy's website and social media for the latest updates and specific conservation measures.

CPS Energy's Commitment

CPS Energy is committed to providing reliable and affordable energy while encouraging responsible consumption. By following these simple tips and staying informed through Cam the Chameleon, customers can help conserve energy, lower their bills, and contribute to a more sustainable community. Stay cool and conserve energy this summer!
