Country music singer Conner Smith was involved in a tragic car accident in Nashville on Sunday, June 8th, resulting in the death of 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins. The accident occurred around 7:30 PM at the intersection of 3rd Ave. North near Van Buren St, an area identified as Salemtown. According to police reports, Dobbins was crossing the roadway within a marked crosswalk when she was struck by Smith's Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Dobbins, who lived near the accident site, was immediately transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department stated that the preliminary contributing factor to the crash appears to be Smith's failure to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. Authorities confirmed that Smith showed no signs of impairment at the scene.
Smith's attorney released a statement acknowledging the incident and expressing condolences to the Dobbins family: "On June 8th, Mr. Smith was involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life. His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins’ family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation."
The investigation is still underway, and as of now, no charges have been filed against Smith. The accident occurred just after Smith performed at the Chevy Riverfront Stage at CMA Fest on Saturday. He is currently on tour with Luke Bryan and is scheduled to perform in Florida this coming Saturday.
