Wyatt Russell: From Hockey to Hollywood A-List with 'Thunderbolts*'

Wyatt Russell, son of Hollywood icons Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, is finally stepping into the spotlight after years of diverse roles. The actor, known for his roles in 'Lodge 49,' 'Under the Banner of Heaven,' and 'Black Mirror,' is now gaining widespread recognition for his portrayal of John Walker, also known as U.S. Agent, in Marvel's 'Thunderbolts*' and 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.'

'Thunderbolts*' Success and John Walker's Impact

The recent success of 'Thunderbolts*,' grossing $372 million worldwide, has significantly boosted Russell's profile. His portrayal of John Walker, a Captain America hopeful turned complex mercenary, has resonated with audiences. Russell's performance, blending sardonic wit with athletic prowess, has been a standout, drawing praise from critics and fans alike. His background as a professional hockey player, playing goalie in European leagues before an injury led him to acting, lends authenticity to the action sequences.

A 'Completely Different' John Walker in 'Avengers: Doomsday'?

Russell has hinted at a significant evolution for his character in the upcoming 'Avengers: Doomsday,' slated for a 2026 release. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he stated that the John Walker viewers will see in 'Avengers: Doomsday' will be a "completely different" version compared to his appearances in previous Marvel projects.

"That was what I found interesting about the character — you can play an insecure superhero who’s still good at his job, but needs to learn things about himself to become fully realized," Russell explained. "So there’s an arc I can play over however many series or movies and still make the character interesting. And that’s what I enjoyed about it. The John Walker I played in Falcon and the Winter Soldier in 2020 is completely different version than the guy in Thunderbolts* and I think will be completely different again in Avengers: Doomsday."

Future Projects: Spielberg and Beyond

Beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Russell is set to appear in Steven Spielberg's highly anticipated, yet secretive, sci-fi project. With these major roles lined up, Wyatt Russell is solidifying his position as a leading man in Hollywood.
