Broncos' Bonitto Eyes Von Miller's Sack Record! Can He Do It?

Nik Bonitto: Chasing Broncos History

Denver Broncos outside linebacker Nik Bonitto is setting his sights high after a breakout 2024 season. Fresh off a four-year, $106 million extension, Bonitto is confident he can challenge Von Miller's single-season sack record of 18.5, set in 2012.

"Very reasonable," Bonitto said of the record. "As long as I remain healthy, I feel I have the confidence in myself to go do it."

Bonitto's 13.5 sacks in 2024 tied for sixth-most in Broncos franchise history. With the NFL's expanded 17-game schedule, he has an extra game to chase Miller's mark.

Broncos' Pass Rush Dominates

The Broncos' defense has been terrorizing opposing quarterbacks this season. Through three games, Denver leads the NFL with 12 sacks. Bonitto leads the charge with three sacks, while Jonathan Cooper and Justin Strnad have contributed two each. Defensive lineman Zach Allen leads the league with 10 quarterback hits.

"It’s insane how fast he gets off the line," Allen said of Bonitto. "The way he practices, the way he rushes, I could see him breaking that record."

The Road to 20 Sacks

Bonitto acknowledges that reaching 20 sacks, a rare feat in the NFL, would be a significant challenge. However, the possibility of surpassing Miller's record is a major motivator.

"I would definitely want to get as many sacks as I can, but 20, that’s going to be some work," Bonitto said. "It’s going to be a push for sure, so we’re going to see."

Other Broncos Players Shine

While the Broncos are 1-2, several players are off to a strong start. JK Dobbins has revitalized the rushing attack, averaging 74 yards per game with three touchdowns. Punter Jeremy Crawshaw is also performing well, averaging 46.8 yards per punt.

With a consistent defense and key players performing well, Bonitto's pursuit of the sack record could be one of the most compelling storylines of the Broncos' season.
