Jim Young, Athletic Director at the YMCA of Alaska, had the opportunity to meet Dakota Fanning. “She was super, super nice,” Young shared. “She came in, and I was like, ‘Hey, welcome to Alaska!’ She said, ‘I’m glad to be here, you have a beautiful state.’” He added, “It was super, super cool to meet her.” He also had positive words for Johnson, noting his affable demeanor.

The YMCA on Lake Otis served as a location for a basketball scene. Young orchestrated the involvement of two YMCA girls' basketball teams as extras in the movie. Erin Zackery's daughter, Makayla, was among the young athletes featured in the filming. Zackery expressed the excitement of the girls and their parents at the prospect of appearing in a Hollywood production, even with limited information about the project.
“They weren’t sure what the movie was even about,” Zackery explained. “They were just given instructions on, ‘Okay, now we want you guys to do this, and then we are going to start here.’” The experience provided a new perspective on the filmmaking process. Zackery stated, “One of the things that has come out of this experience is just having a lot more appreciation for what goes into making a movie.”
