Halsey's Music Career on Hold? Label Blocks New Album!

Halsey fans, brace yourselves! The singer-songwriter has revealed some shocking news: she's currently "not allowed" to make a new album. In a recent interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Halsey explained that her record label, Columbia Records, is putting a hold on new releases due to the performance of her 2024 album, The Great Impersonator.

The Great Impersonator's Performance

According to Halsey, the label believes The Great Impersonator "underperformed," despite debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and selling a respectable 100,000 copies in its first week. "If I'm being honest with you, the album sold 100,000 f------ copies first week," Halsey told Lowe. "That's a pretty big first week, especially for an artist who hasn’t had a hit in a long time."

Pressure to Replicate Past Success

Halsey expressed frustration with the label's expectations, stating that they want Manic numbers, referring to her successful 2020 album. She feels that her current work is being compared unfairly to her past achievements and to other artists she doesn't consider to be on the same level. "That's the hardest part of having been a pop star once," Halsey said. "Because I'm not one anymore, but I'm being compared to numbers and to other people that I don't consider lateral to me."

What's Next for Halsey?

While new music may be on hold for now, Halsey is embarking on a tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her debut album, Badlands, starting in October 2025. This tour promises to be the highest-selling of her career, showcasing her enduring popularity and connection with fans. Despite the challenges with her label, Halsey remains a force in the music industry, and fans are eagerly awaiting her next move.

It remains to be seen if Halsey and Columbia Records can reach an agreement that allows her to release new music soon. For now, fans can enjoy her past work and look forward to seeing her on tour.
