Alcaraz & Mensik Dominate! Team Europe Leads Laver Cup!

Team Europe Takes Early Lead at Laver Cup 2025!

Team Europe has surged ahead with a 3-1 lead against Team World on the first day of the Laver Cup, thanks in part to a stellar performance by Carlos Alcaraz.

Alcaraz, fresh off his US Open victory, teamed up with Jakub Mensik to secure a crucial doubles win. The pair defeated Team World's Taylor Fritz and Alex Michelsen 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 in a captivating match. Alcaraz displayed his signature flair, noting that doubles provides more opportunities for impressive shots and volleys. He also highlighted Mensik's skills and the comfort he felt playing alongside him.

Earlier in the day, Casper Ruud secured the first point for Team Europe, defeating Reilly Opelka 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). Mensik followed up with another victory, triumphing over Michelsen 6-1, 7-6 (7-3), 10-8.

Joao Fonseca managed to pull a point back for Team World, staging a comeback to win against Flavio Cobolli 6-4, 6-3. Despite Fonseca's efforts, Team Europe maintains a strong lead going into the second day of the competition.

Alcaraz emphasized his readiness for the tournament, stating he has "enough battery to pull off some good things." His performance alongside Mensik demonstrated his continued dominance on the court. Their partnership proved formidable, denying Fritz and Michelsen any break points throughout the match. Alcaraz's net play and Mensik's baseline power proved to be a winning combination.

With match victories on the opening day worth one point each, the competition intensifies on days two and three, where wins are worth two and three points respectively. The first team to reach 13 points will be crowned the Laver Cup champion.

Can Team World close the gap? Stay tuned for more updates from the Laver Cup!
