Phillies' Playoff Pitching Plan REVEALED! Walker Buehler's Role SHOCKS Fans!

The Philadelphia Phillies are gearing up for a Red October after clinching the NL East! Manager Rob Thomson is already deep in thought about how to best utilize his pitching staff for the playoffs. While securing the top seed in the National League remains a priority, Thomson is focused on ensuring his starters are primed and ready for the postseason pressure.

Thomson Teases Postseason Rotation

Thomson has already announced that Cristopher Sánchez will take the mound for Game 1. But the intrigue doesn't stop there! He revealed plans for the series against the Diamondbacks, including a creative pitching strategy.

"Friday, we’re going to piggyback," Thomson stated. "Taijuan (Walker) will start and (Walker) Buehler will piggyback. So, it will be a Walker Buehler piggyback." The manager's playful word choice brought laughter to the Phillies dugout, showcasing the team's positive atmosphere heading into the playoffs. Aaron Nola will pitch Saturday, and Ranger Suárez on Sunday.

Luzardo's Desire to Start

Jesús Luzardo has expressed his strong desire to be part of the Phillies' postseason rotation. "It would be amazing for me," Luzardo told The Athletic's Matt Gelb. "I've always said whatever they need from me, I'll do, whether it's a bullpen or a starting job. But I feel like it would be awesome to be a part of that and to get a start in the postseason."

While Luzardo started the season strong, his ERA has risen in recent outings. However, Zack Wheeler's injury may pave the way for Luzardo to start in the NLDS. Thomson is considering Sánchez, Suárez, and Luzardo as potential rotation starters.

The Phillies' pitching plans remain fluid, but one thing is certain: Rob Thomson is meticulously crafting a strategy to maximize his team's chances for postseason success.
