Mariota Ready? Commanders QB Reveals All After Daniels' Injury!

Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota recently addressed the media, offering insights into his current mindset and readiness as Jayden Daniels deals with a knee injury. Here are key takeaways from his press conference:

Teammate Support is 'Huge'

Mariota emphasized the importance of the support he's received from his teammates, especially with Daniels' status uncertain. Head coach Dan Quinn has lauded Mariota as an "elite" competitor, and the team believes in his leadership. Mariota stated that this support gives him confidence, highlighting the brotherhood and connection within the team.

"I think that's what's been awesome about this team...just knowing that the guys have my back gives me confidence," Mariota said.

Mariota's Past Successes

The Commanders aren't relying solely on faith in Mariota's ability. He led the team to two wins last season against the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys. While not official starts, he played the majority of snaps in those games and achieved some of his best single-game completion rates. He also recorded a QBR of 95.9, his highest since 2022.

While the ideal scenario involves Jayden Daniels starting, Mariota's teammates are confident in his ability to perform well when needed. Mariota's focus is on being himself and playing to the best of his abilities.

Feeling More Like Himself

Mariota missed a significant portion of training camp due to tendonitis in his leg. Rest was crucial for recovery, and after several weeks, he's feeling significantly better.

"It's one of those things with the tendonitis you just kind of have to rest and the team was willing to kind of let me do that through training camp," Mariota explained. Despite not practicing, he remained engaged with the team.
