KISD: Got School Concerns? Here's Your Step-by-Step Guide!

KISD Shares Guide for Addressing Campus Concerns

The Killeen Independent School District (KISD) has released a helpful guide for parents navigating school-related issues. This guide outlines a clear, step-by-step process to ensure concerns are addressed efficiently and effectively.

According to Iris Felder, KISD’s executive director for student support services, the first point of contact should always be the teacher. "When questions or concerns arise, the first step is to talk with the person who knows your child best during the school day—their teacher," Felder stated. "A short conversation often brings clarity and helps us all keep the focus on your child’s success."

If the issue requires further attention, KISD recommends a sequential approach: first, contact the teacher, then the assistant principal, followed by the principal. If the problem remains unresolved, parents can then escalate the matter to Student Support Services at the district level. This structured process aims to ensure the right individuals are involved promptly to resolve issues effectively.

"Parents and guardians are essential partners with Killeen ISD in their child’s education," Felder emphasized. "Every conversation we have is a chance to strengthen trust with our families. When we follow these steps together, we solve concerns faster and keep the focus where it belongs—student success and well-being."

How to Navigate Your Concerns:

  • Classroom Experience, Grades, Behavior, Learning: Contact the teacher directly.
  • Unresolved Classroom Issues or Issues Not Directly Involving the Teacher: Contact the assistant principal.
  • Additional Campus-Level Support Needed: Contact the principal.
  • Unresolved Issues After Principal Involvement: Contact district support.
