Jon Jones is determined to fight at the UFC White House event, despite UFC CEO Dana White's reservations. Jones, a former heavyweight and light heavyweight champion, retired briefly earlier this year, relinquishing his heavyweight title. Now, he's back and focused on securing a spot on the marquee event slated for next June in Washington, D.C.
White has publicly expressed doubts about Jones' reliability, seemingly crushing his hopes. However, “Bones” isn't giving up. He claims to be training intensely, ensuring he's in peak condition for the potential fight, roughly nine months away. He hopes his dedication will sway White.
"I don't know (what's going to happen)," Jones told USA TODAY Sports at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. "I'm definitely training constantly for the opportunity. My goal is to just show Dana (White) how serious I am about being on the event, and I hope he chooses me. But ultimately it's in his hands. He's the boss."
Meanwhile, Chael Sonnen has questioned Jones' motivations for returning if he's not fighting Tom Aspinall. Sonnen pointed out that Jones relinquished his title, seemingly avoiding a fight with Aspinall. "If you’re coming back, what are you coming back for?" Sonnen asked, questioning if Jones is avoiding the fight with the English fighter.
The situation remains uncertain. White's stubbornness is well-known, and Jones faces an uphill battle. However, Jones remains optimistic, emphasizing his involvement in the 2025 VMAs as a positive sign.
Will We See Jones vs. Aspinall?
The question remains: will Jon Jones secure his White House fight and, more importantly, will he eventually face Tom Aspinall? Only time will tell.
