Quarterback TJ Finley is on the move again! The well-traveled signal-caller has officially joined the Georgia State Panthers, adding another chapter to his already eventful college football career. Finley's arrival in Atlanta was confirmed on Monday, marking his latest stop after stints at Tulane, Western Kentucky, Texas State, Auburn, and LSU.
A Familiar Foe
Georgia State fans will remember Finley vividly. Back in 2021, he came off the bench for an injured Bo Nix at Auburn and orchestrated a dramatic comeback victory, throwing a game-winning touchdown pass with just 45 seconds remaining. That performance thwarted the Panthers' upset bid and left a lasting impression.
Finley's Collegiate Journey
Finley's journey began at LSU in 2020, where he started five games as a true freshman. He then transferred to Auburn, spending two seasons and making 13 appearances. After Auburn, he landed at Texas State, where he enjoyed a career year in 2023, throwing for a program-record 3,439 yards and 24 touchdowns. Most recently, he was at Western Kentucky, appearing in three games in 2024.
Accolades and Recognition
Finley's talent hasn't gone unnoticed. He's been named to multiple watchlists, including the Reese's Senior Bowl, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Davey O'Brien Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year, Maxwell Award, and East-West Shrine Bowl. He was also a preseason All-Conference selection.

At 6'7" and 255lbs, Finley brings impressive size and experience to the Georgia State quarterback room. He has played in 34 career games across four different programs, providing valuable leadership and a proven track record. It remains to be seen what role he will play for the Panthers, but his addition undoubtedly strengthens their quarterback depth and provides head coach Dell McGee with another weapon on offense.
Finley enrolled in graduate school at Georgia State last week, and the NCAA cleared him for full participation with the team. This means he is eligible to play immediately. The Panthers hope he can bring stability and success to their offense.
