Dodgers' Secret Weapon? Tanner Scott's Delivery Tweak Unleashed!

Los Angeles Dodgers closer Tanner Scott's season has been a rollercoaster, but recent improvements suggest he might be turning a corner. After a stint on the 15-day injured list, Scott returned on August 22nd, showcasing noticeable changes in his pitching mechanics.

Dodgers' Coaching Magic: A Minor Tweak, Major Impact

The Dodgers' coaching staff identified a flaw in Scott's delivery: he was opening his hips too early, forcing his pitches instead of letting them flow naturally. This adjustment has seemingly revitalized his slider, increasing its velocity from an average of 88.2 mph to 90.2 mph post-injury.

"It was something so small you wouldn’t really notice, and it was creating something small into something bigger,” Scott explained. This subtle correction appears to be the key to unlocking his All-Star potential.

From Disappointment to Dominance?

The Dodgers signed Scott to a lucrative four-year, $72 million deal in the offseason, expecting him to be a dominant force in the bullpen. However, early struggles, including blown saves and a high ERA, raised concerns. Before landing on the IL he had a ERA of 8.10 in July and blew two out of three saves. But manager Dave Roberts maintained faith in Scott, and the recent improvements are a testament to that belief.

Since his return, Scott has pitched two scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and no walks. He even secured his first save since July 12th against the Reds. While his strikeout numbers are still lacking, the improved velocity and control are encouraging signs.

The Road Ahead

The Dodgers are counting on Scott to be a reliable weapon down the stretch, especially with the playoffs looming. If he can maintain his improved mechanics and continue to build confidence, he could become a major asset for the team's championship aspirations. The Dodgers lead the NL West by two games, and a rejuvenated Tanner Scott could be the difference-maker they need.

  • Improved slider velocity
  • Corrected hip mechanics
  • Two scoreless innings since returning from IL
  • First save since July
