Aliyah Boston: Sparks' Secret Weapon? Kelsey Plum Reveals All!

The Los Angeles Sparks are gearing up for a crucial matchup against the Indiana Fever on August 29th, a game that feels like a must-win for both teams as they battle for playoff positioning in the 2025 WNBA season. The Sparks, currently with a 17-19 record, are just outside the playoff picture, while the Fever, at 20-18, hold the No. 6 seed.

Interestingly, despite their overall records, the Sparks have dominated the Fever this season, winning all three of their previous encounters. With Caitlin Clark sidelined due to a groin injury, the Sparks' defensive focus will primarily be on guard Kelsey Mitchell and center Aliyah Boston.

The Aliyah Boston Challenge

Containing Aliyah Boston has proven to be a challenge for the Sparks. In those three games against Los Angeles, Boston has averaged 16.7 points and 10.3 rebounds, exceeding her season averages of 15.5 points and 8.2 rebounds respectively.

Kelsey Plum's Insightful Strategy

Following the Sparks' practice on August 28th, star guard Kelsey Plum shared some insights into the team's strategy for guarding Boston. Plum acknowledged Boston's strength and versatility, describing her as "a big load in there." She emphasized Boston's passing ability, skill, and physicality, stating that the Sparks guards need to provide help defense whenever possible and maintain a positive attitude.

"She can pass very well, she's super skilled, very physical. So we've got to make sure that if we're in the area, help out. And just be super encouraging," Plum explained. She also acknowledged that even the best defensive efforts won't completely shut down a player like Boston. "Great players make great plays in this league. You can't get your head down, just got to go to the best play. Because she's not gonna be held scoreless."

The Sparks will need to execute their defensive strategy effectively if they hope to continue their winning streak against the Fever and improve their playoff chances.
