Mingus Reedus, the son of “Walking Dead” star Norman Reedus and model Helena Christensen, has been arrested and charged with assault following an alleged incident in New York City. The 25-year-old model faces a slew of charges, including third-degree assault, assault recklessly causing injury, criminal obstruction of breathing, second-degree harassment, and aggravated harassment.
According to the New York Police Department, officers responded to a call about an assault in progress in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood on Saturday morning. Upon arrival, they found a 33-year-old woman with “minor injuries” to her neck and leg. She was subsequently taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, while Mingus Reedus was taken into custody.
Mingus Reedus pleaded not guilty to all five charges during his court appearance on Saturday. His attorney, Priya Chaudhry, released a statement emphasizing her client's innocence, stating that the facts of the case will eventually clear his name. She also highlighted that the judge released Mingus Reedus on his own recognizance, without requiring bail or supervision.
This isn't the first time Mingus Reedus has faced assault allegations. In 2022, he accepted a plea deal after being accused of assaulting a woman at the San Gennaro festival in New York City. He claimed the incident was accidental, stating he was protecting himself when he inadvertently struck the woman.
Past Allegations and Defense
In the previous incident, Mingus Reedus stated that the woman and her friends “swarmed” him after a minor collision with his group. He maintained that he only acted in self-defense. The current case is still under investigation, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
Legal Representation
Priya Chaudhry, Mingus Reedus' attorney, is confident that her client will be exonerated. She pointed out that the decision to charge him with misdemeanors, rather than more serious offenses, speaks volumes about the strength of the prosecution's case. She also emphasized the judge's decision to release him without bail as a sign of confidence in his innocence.
