Cubs' Cade Horton Dominates! Longest Scoreless Streak in MLB?

Chicago Cubs rookie Cade Horton is turning heads! In Wednesday night's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, Horton delivered a stellar performance, leading the Cubs to a 4-1 victory. He pitched 5 2/3 innings, striking out a career-high eight batters.

Horton's Historic Streak

Before allowing a run, Horton achieved the longest scoreless innings streak in MLB this season, an impressive 29 innings! He surpassed Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt, who had 28 1/3 scoreless innings earlier in the season. This is a remarkable feat for the 23-year-old right-hander, especially considering he was called up from Triple-A Iowa just three months ago.

Horton's scoreless streak began on July 9th. From that point, he consistently shut down opposing offenses. Over his last five starts, he's only allowed 11 hits, with just one going for extra bases.

Key Moments in the Game

The Blue Jays didn't manage a hit against Horton until the sixth inning. Michael Busch and Matt Shaw contributed with home runs for the Cubs. Unfortunately, Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya was carted off the field after injuring his left ankle.

After retiring 10 straight batters to start the game, Horton walked Bo Bichette in the fourth. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. eventually broke Horton's scoreless streak with an RBI double, but Andrew Kittredge closed out the inning.

Looking Ahead

With a 0.32 ERA since the All-Star break, Cade Horton is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with. His unique, curved pitching style is proving to be a major asset for the Cubs. Max Scherzer is scheduled to pitch for Blue Jays and Matthew Boyd for the Cubs in the next game.
