Abu Dhabi Tragedy: Baby's Survival Unlikely After Parents' Fatal Crash

A heartbroken Indian family is facing a devastating reality after a tragic road accident in Abu Dhabi claimed the lives of a young couple, leaving their four-month-old baby fighting for his life. The infant, who sustained severe head injuries, is currently on life support in a critical condition at an Abu Dhabi hospital.

The accident occurred on August 7th as Syed Waheed, 35, and Sana Begum, 27, were driving back to their home in Al Ruwais. Their daughters, Sidra, 7, and Sadia, 2, were also injured in the crash and are recovering from leg fractures at the hospital.

Syed Mateen, the victims' brother and brother-in-law, shared the family's anguish with The National. "There has been no improvement and doctors have told us that he may not survive," he said, expressing his disbelief and shock at seeing the baby on a ventilator.

Mateen was the last family member to see them alive, as they had visited him in Abu Dhabi before heading back to Al Ruwais when the accident happened. He faces the difficult task of informing the two young girls about the loss of their parents, a conversation he plans to have with his father, the children's grandfather, who is traveling from Hyderabad, India, to take custody of them.

The grandfather was in India to oversee the funeral arrangements for Syed and Sana, which were completed on August 9th. The entire family had recently gathered in India to celebrate Mr. Mateen's engagement, making the sudden tragedy even more difficult to bear. The family is now grappling with immense grief and uncertainty as they await updates on the baby's condition and prepare to support the orphaned sisters.

Coping with Loss and Supporting the Children

The family is focusing on providing the best possible care for Sidra and Sadia, who are slowly recovering from their physical injuries. However, the emotional scars of losing their parents will undoubtedly take much longer to heal. The grandfather's arrival will provide much-needed stability and support as they navigate this challenging time.

Community Support

The Indian community in Abu Dhabi has rallied around the family, offering assistance and condolences. The technology company where Mr. Mateen works has also provided support during this difficult period.

  • Providing emotional support to the children
  • Assisting with medical care and recovery
  • Offering financial assistance
