Justice Oppong Returns to Bench, Atuguba Leads Ghana School of Law

Accra, Ghana - Justice Nana Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, a Justice of the Court of Appeal and former Director of the Ghana School of Law, has been recalled to the bench to fully resume his judicial duties. The Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has instructed Justice Oppong to hand over his responsibilities as Director of Legal Education to Professor Raymond Atuguba, previously the Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law.

A letter dated August 8th, signed by Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, specifies that Justice Oppong's recall is effective September 1st, 2025. Professor Atuguba will serve as the Acting Director of Legal Education while a search commences for a permanent appointee.

"The Judiciary now requires your full services, so you are recalled from the position of Director of Legal Education with effect from 1st September 2025. You are to hand over to Professor Raymond A. Atuguba..." the letter stated.

Justice Oppong expressed gratitude to the students and staff of the Ghana School of Law for their collaboration during his three-year tenure. He announced his last day as Director of Legal Education will be August 31st, 2025.

"I had hoped to finish my full term... But sadly, that was not meant to be," Justice Oppong noted in a recent statement. This transition marks a significant shift in leadership at the Ghana School of Law, Ghana's sole provider of professional law courses.

Professor Atuguba's Appointment

Professor Raymond Atuguba's appointment as Acting Director brings a wealth of experience to the role. As a former Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law, he is well-versed in legal education and administration.
