Ghana Mourns: Ministers Die in Tragic Helicopter Crash

Accra, Ghana – The nation of Ghana is in deep mourning following a devastating helicopter crash in the Ashanti region that claimed the lives of eight people, including two prominent government ministers.

National Tragedy Strikes

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, involved a military Z9 helicopter en route from Accra to Obuasi. On board were the Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with six others. Sadly, there were no survivors.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has declared the crash a "national tragedy," and the entire country is grappling with the immense loss.

The helicopter, carrying three crew members and five passengers, crashed in a dense forest area. The purpose of the flight was reportedly related to an event focused on tackling illegal mining in Obuasi.

Investigation Underway

While the exact cause of the crash remains undetermined, the Ghanaian military has launched a thorough investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that adverse weather conditions, including unusually cold temperatures, rain, and fog, may have played a role. A local farmer near the crash site reported thick fog in the morning.

One eyewitness recounted hearing the helicopter flying at a low altitude, followed by a loud sound and an explosion.

National Mourning

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has also expressed its condolences, joining the nation in mourning the loss of these dedicated individuals. The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and transported to Accra, where a solemn ceremony was held.

Funeral arrangements are pending, with plans to bury the Muslim victims postponed until full identification is complete. The nation stands in solidarity with the bereaved families during this difficult time.
