Eii Ghana! Cybercrime dey increase o! The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) dey warn Ghanaians to be sharp and dey no fall for scams wey dey go on, especially for the digital world. These scammers, dem dey creative for how dem dey take people money, so you for open your eye well well!

Common Scams Wey Dey Go On

Plenty scams dey go round. Some dey use phone calls or text messages to tell you say you get unpaid fees or you get warrant for your arrest. Dem go dey threaten you with legal action if you no pay quick quick. Some dey even claim say you get overdue toll tag balance.

Sergeant Steven Blanco from Texas DPS dey warn say make you dey careful because some of these scams dey sound real, but easy ways dey to spot dem:

  • Gift Cards: If anybody tell you say you for pay with gift card, that be big red flag! Government agencies no dey ask you to pay fines with gift card.
  • Cryptocurrency: Dem no go ask you to pay your fines with cryptocurrency.
  • Unsecured Web Portals: Dem no go ask you to pay through web portal wey go carry you go overseas or unsecured account.

How to Protect Yourself From Scams

DPS dey give some advice to help you protect yourself:

  • Written Notices: Any unpaid fees or infractions against your license, dem go send you written notice for mail. Government no dey send you text or call you for this matter.
  • Contact Local Authorities: If you get questions about your license, go to your local drivers license office.
  • Verify Warrants: For warrants or toll fees, contact the city or town wey dem issue am for. No believe phone calls wey dey ask for personal information. Government already get your information if dem get warrant for you.
  • Ask Questions: If someone call you, especially if you no know the number, ask questions. If dem claim say dem be police officer, call back to the police station to confirm.
