Accra, Ghana - Sofo Rashid Tanko-Computer, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC), has vehemently refuted claims circulating online that his PhD from Kingsnow University is fake. In a spirited defense, he dismissed the allegations as “foolish” and not worthy of serious consideration.
Tanko-Computer addressed the controversy during a recent appearance on Joy Prime’s morning show, responding to comments challenging the legitimacy of his academic qualifications, which had gained traction on social media. The issue first surfaced after he announced his PhD achievement on Facebook back in December 2016, stating he had received the degree from Kingsnow University.
"I completed my studies and earned my PhD from Kingsnow University. Those questioning my credentials are simply misinformed and engaging in unproductive speculation," Tanko-Computer stated firmly during the interview. He added that his focus remains on his duties at GIFEC and contributing to the development of electronic communication infrastructure in Ghana.
The controversy comes amidst growing national scrutiny over the use of unverified academic titles. The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) issued a warning earlier this year, on April 7, 2025, regarding the misuse of titles like “Doctor” and “Professor” by individuals without recognized qualifications. This has prompted increased public awareness and critical examination of academic credentials.
Tanko-Computer’s defense aims to put the matter to rest and reaffirm his qualifications to the public. The issue raises broader questions about the importance of verifying academic credentials in public office and the responsibility of public figures to maintain transparency.
Public Reaction
Social media remains divided on the issue, with some supporting Tanko-Computer and others demanding further verification of his credentials from Kingsnow University. The online debate highlights the power of social media in shaping public opinion and holding individuals accountable.
Next Steps
It remains to be seen whether GTEC will investigate the matter further. For now, Tanko-Computer remains focused on his role at GIFEC and dismisses the allegations as baseless.
