Accra Sky Train Project: Former GIIF Bosses Seek Bail Variation

Accra, Ghana – Former Board Chairperson of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, and former CEO, Solomon Asamoah, are seeking a variation of their bail conditions related to the ongoing Accra Sky Train project case. The two are currently facing trial at the Criminal Division of the High Court.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi and Mr. Asamoah are accused of causing financial loss of $2 million to the state in connection with a deal to construct a sky train in Accra. They have both pleaded not guilty to six counts, including conspiracy, willfully causing financial loss to the state, and intentional dissipation of public funds.

The initial bail conditions required Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi to report to the police weekly, while Mr. Asamoah had to report to investigators every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Their lawyers have filed an oral application to the court requesting a change to these reporting terms.

During yesterday's hearing, Justice Comfort Tasiame directed the lawyers to formally file their application with specific reasons, allowing the Attorney-General's office to respond accordingly. The case has been adjourned to June 24, 2025, for a Case Management Conference (CMC). During the CMC, Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, is expected to withdraw certain witness statements related to the matter.

According to the prosecution, Mr. Asamoah and Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi allegedly transferred $2 million from GIIF's account into Africa Investor Holdings L. The details surrounding this transfer and its connection to the sky train project are central to the ongoing legal proceedings.
