According to reports, the shooting began as people were preparing to cut the cake. Patrice Williams, the birthday girl's mother, initially mistook the gunshots for popping balloons. Sadly, her sister, a cousin, and three friends were among those shot. The victims included children aged 8, 9, and 14, as well as a 21-year-old.
