Ghanaian Student Shines at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Two brilliant high school students, Hannah White from Gouverneur, New York, and Emilie Goucher from Spartanburg County, South Carolina, recently achieved incredible feats by performing in the prestigious Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Their dedication and talent have brought pride to their schools and communities.

Hannah White's Musical Journey

Hannah White, a sophomore at Gouverneur High School, is a multi-talented musician involved in concert band, jazz band, marching band, field band, and orchestra. Her passion for music led her to be accepted into the Future Farmers of America National Band, where she performed in front of thousands. Now, she has taken her talent to the streets of New York City as part of the Great American Marching Band in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

"I still don’t think I’ve fully processed it, like, I can’t believe I got into such a well-known thing. I’m so honored," Hannah said, expressing her excitement and gratitude. Her mother, Polly Sergel, and Orchestra Teacher Janeen Streeter, praised Hannah's initiative and determination.

Hannah plays five different instruments, including the cello, and performed the mellophone in the parade. She rehearsed with the band in New York City before the big day, reflecting on the unique opportunity to perform with high school musicians from across the country.

Emilie Goucher's Inspiring Performance

Emilie Goucher, a student at Boiling Springs High School, was selected to play the marching bass drum in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band. Emilie credits her faith as her inspiration, quoting Psalms 105:1-5. She sees her drumming as a way to praise God and celebrate powerful acts and greatness.

Emilie expressed her desire to represent South Carolina, Boiling Springs High School, and District Two, inspiring younger students to believe in themselves and the power of the band program. "Band is a second family, and I want to make all of my family proud," she said.

Emilie is one of 225 students selected from high school band programs across the United States. Her performance at the parade was a testament to her hard work and dedication.

These students' achievements highlight the importance of music education and the incredible talent found in high schools across America. Their participation in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and passion for music, inspiring others to pursue their dreams.
