Boar's Head Cheese Recall: Listeria Fears Spark Action in Ghana

Accra, Ghana - Boar's Head, a popular deli meat and cheese brand, is facing another recall due to potential Listeria contamination. This news is relevant to Ghanaians who may purchase Boar's Head products through international channels or are interested in global food safety standards.

What's Being Recalled?

The recall primarily involves Pecorino Romano cheese products supplied by Ambriola Company. Affected products include:

  • 6-oz packages of Boar's Head Grated Pecorino Romano Cheese with "sell-by" dates between Nov. 21, 2025, and March 12, 2026.
  • 7-oz wedges of Boar's Head Pecorino Romano Cheese with a "sell-by" date between Nov. 25, 2025, and May 11, 2026
  • Boar's Head EverRoast Chicken Caesar Salad with a "best-by" date between Nov. 9 and Nov. 22.
  • Boar's Head EverRoast Chicken Caesar Wrap with a "best-by" date between Nov. 9 and Nov. 22.

These products were sold in various stores across the United States, including Kroger, Big Y, and Tops. Boar's Head has stated they are taking precautionary measures by halting purchases from Ambriola Company and removing affected items from distribution.

Why the Recall?

The recall is due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious infections, especially in pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Past Outbreaks

This recall comes after a significant Listeria outbreak last year linked to Boar's Head, which resulted in several deaths and hospitalizations. The company has reportedly made substantial payouts to victims' families in an effort to resolve the scandal. This history highlights the importance of stringent food safety measures.

What to Do If You Have Affected Products

If you have purchased any of the recalled Boar's Head products, do not consume them. Return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Contact your doctor if you experience symptoms of Listeria infection, such as fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues.

This recall serves as a reminder of the crucial role food safety regulations play in protecting public health. Stay informed and check product labels to ensure the food you consume is safe.
