E get one time wey everybody dey look forward to the match between Notre Dame and Syracuse, sake of say e dey look like Steve Angeli go face him former teammates from Fighting Irish. Angeli bin move go Syracuse and win the starting quarterback position.
But, things change when Angeli tear him Achilles tendon for Syracuse match against Clemson on September 20. This injury mean say e no go play for the rest of the season.
Even though Angeli no go dey for this year game, Notre Dame coach, Marcus Freeman, say he hope say he go get chance to yarn with the player wey he coach for three seasons for South Bend.
“If he come this trip, I go like see am,” Freeman talk on Monday. “This game big pass – I know say dem dey judge us based on wins and losses, but for me wey dey this position, e concern people. And e concern helping young people make dem succeed, right? For field and outside field.”
“Steve na guy wey give everything wey he get for this place when he dey here. And as I tell am when he decide to leave, the relationship between coach and player no dey stop when you comot. I dey always support am. I happy well well when I hear say dem name am starter and I watch am dey do some successful things. I reach out to am when he injure. So I go like see am and just hug am, right, just because you care about am. I hope say he go fit come the trip.”
Freeman and CJ Carr Dey Bond On Sundays
Freeman still talk about how he dey meet with CJ Carr, the starting quarterback, every Sunday. He say na important thing for am because Carr understand the pressure wey he dey face as Notre Dame coach.
“I don talk am before say, I doubt say anybody else understand wetin the position of head coach for Notre Dame be pass the starting quarterback for Notre Dame,” Freeman talk. “I don make am habit to meet with the starting quarterback.”
“During the season, we dey meet on Sundays. For me, I like that time. We dey intentional about am. We dey talk about the game. We dey talk about life. We dey talk about family. E dey give me chance to just talk to somebody. My wife, most times, she dey sleep when I reach house, so I no dey get anybody to talk to sometimes.”
The responsibility wey these two men carry everyday no normal, e pass ordinary. Na why this weekly meeting between coach and quarterback no be just meeting between teacher and student, but more like meeting of peers.
