DVLA Boss Claims GH¢4 Million Bribe Attempt Over New Vehicle Stickers

Accra, Ghana - The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has publicly alleged that an unidentified individual attempted to bribe him with GH¢4 million. According to Kotey, the bribe was intended to dissuade him from implementing a new sticker system for 'Drive from Port' (DP) new vehicle numbers issued at the ports.

Kotey made these claims during a media interview on Angel TV in Accra. He stated that the introduction of the stickers was aimed at combating vehicle-related fraud associated with the issuance of DP number plates by the DVLA at the port. He insists that this “gentleman” tried to get him to abandon the initiative.

Following Kotey's allegations, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has extended an invitation to the DVLA boss. The OSP seeks further details regarding the alleged bribery attempt, verification of the claims, and identification of those purportedly involved.

Kotey confirmed the OSP's invitation in a Facebook post, stating, "I received a letter from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on 29th October 2025, at 11:am. I will be available at the OSP's office on Friday, 31st October 2025 at 11am."

In related news, the OSP has also reportedly launched an investigation into a sitting member of the Council of State. This investigation concerns suspected corruption and corruption-related offences linked to gold trading, according to Citinewsroom reports. The probe centers on allegations that the Council of State member used his position to influence the granting of a gold license to a company in which he allegedly has undisclosed business interests.

The bribery allegation made by the DVLA boss has sparked significant public interest, raising questions about transparency and accountability within government agencies. The OSP's investigations into both matters are ongoing.
