Education Ministry Dey Beg GH¢300m For Category 'A' Schools Infrastructure

The Education Ministry dey beg the Ministry of Finance make dem give dem extra GH¢300 million wey dem go use expand infrastructure for Category 'A' senior high schools (SHSs). This one dey come as part of the efforts wey dem dey do to manage the high demand wey dey for these schools.

The plan be say the infrastructure expansion go double the number of students wey dem dey take enter these schools now. Dem expect say the money go show for the 2026 Budget Statement.

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, talk am for the opening of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG)’s 22nd Biennial Congress wey happen for Aburi for Eastern Region yesterday. He say, "All of us want our children to go to the best schools, and that one dey make sense. But we dey invest in expanding the infrastructure for the Category 'A' schools?"

He add say, "Just this morning, I beg the Minister of Finance make dem give us extra GH¢300 million wey we go use expand the facilities for Category 'A' schools. Plenty of dem fit double the number of students wey dem dey take if dem get more dormitories and classrooms."

The event be on the theme: "Rethinking Higher Education Pedagogy and Funding in the Age of AI: Ethics, Equity and Development Impact".

Mr. Iddrisu give examples like Achimota School, Wesley Girls SHS, Mfantsipim School, Adisadel College, Presbyterian Boys SHS, and Tamale SHS. He say these schools get good things wey dem fit use "double" the number of students wey dem dey take.

He say the things wey dem need be extra classrooms, dedicated teachers, and some other things. He add say Government need to invest in the infrastructure to make sure say education dey fair, inclusive, and quality.

He talk say, "So, while we dey spend GH¢300 million for Category 'A' schools, I go commit GH¢500 million to GH¢1 billion to other infrastructure across the country."

The Education Minister talk say he go make sure say dem pass the Scholarship Authority Bill into law when Parliament dey sit.
